Hebrews ======= 1. Son is superior to angels. Jesus picked out by God in beginning. 2. Warning: Do not fall away. Jesus was to be like a man to know what man went through. 3. Jesus is a high priest greater than Moses. We must hold firmly to the end and not become rebellious. 4. We must not fall short of God's grace (rest). We must make every effort to enter God's rest. God with His word can judge all things - all is laid bare to Him. Because of Jesus' humanity we can approach God's throne for all our help. 5. Jesus is the Great High Priest who was elected/ called by God and obedient to God too. The recipients of Hebrews were seen as not growing in the truth but the author is adamant to move on to more important things: 6. People who fall away knowing God's whole truth will not be able to be brought back to repentance. We should expect better things and should be faithful to the end. God made an oath to Abraham about his descendant and it applies to us today too. 7. Jesus fulfilled the purpose of the high priest Melchizedek by instituting a better covenant in his own blood. Because of Jesus' permanent priesthood he saves completely as he always lives to intercede for them. 8. Jesus' covenant is better than the previous covenants. God promised this better covenant previously. 9. The previous covenant dealt with external regulations. Christ dealt with the new and better covenant not dealing with earthly things. Christ's blood served as the seal for the new covenant. 10. The law was a reminder of the better things (new covenant) that was coming. Jesus came to fulfill God's will with respect to this law. In fulfilling this law once and for all, the law is written on the hearts of those who believe. Their sins are also remembered no more. We should hold onto this hope. But if we keep on sinning after receiving this hope, we can expect a severe judgment. If we hold onto this hope and persevere, we will be richly rewarded. 11. Faith is what will save us. Many examples from past: we have these as examples of how to live. 12. As Jesus endured hardship, we too should endure hardship. Hardship must be endured as God will strengthen us through it. [Instructions on worship] As believers, we have come to the heavenly Jerusalem. We must not refuse He who speaks now, as the next Judgment is the harshest. 13. [Instructions on being Godly.] God will not forsake us. Our home is not here, but we must look forward to the City to come. [Instructions on holiness and prayer.] [Greetings.]
